Sempra Joins Southern California Edison for La Rumorosa Wind Farm Project

Sempra Generation and Southern California Edison have signed up a wind power contract. The wind power agreement would represent an important milestone towards the development of the La Rumorosa wind farm project. Sempra Generation is a Sempra Energy subsidiary.

This agreement, spanning 20 years, will provide 250 MW of wind power to Southern California Edison. This wind farm project is currently under development at Baja California, Mexico. Under this contract, in 2010, renewable energy delivery will be made by Sempra Generation to Southern California Edison.

The California Public Utilities Commission still needs to approve this contract, however. This wind farm project is the resultant of a co-development arrangement along with Cannon Power Corp., a San Diego-based company. At an estimated $400-million investment, this wind farm project would generate wind energy from 125 wind turbines.
