New Women’s Healthcare Facility at Schertz will be Powered by Solar

The New Women’s Healthcare facility will become the first fully solar powered office using BIPV solar panels in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City area when Northeast OB/GYN Associates complete and open up their latest 10,000 square-foot office in the month of September.

The new Schertz building incorporates 90 individual solar panels each of which has a measurement of 16 in. x 18 in. x 0.25 in. The BIPV panels designed by SEV Inc will be seamlessly laminated to a standing type of metal roof system. The solar panels utilized will generate approximately 19,785 kW of electric power through the 1st year of operation. The installed solar panels will save around 15% of annual expenditure on electric power for Northeast OB/GYN. The tax rebate from CPS Energy and other federal and local units are expected to offset the total investments made on this solar project.

According to Carey Birmingham, Schertz Parkway Venture’s Managing Director, Northeast OB/GYN considered venturing into solar project due to its eco friendly and cost saving features. Birmingham, added that the other planned features for the building will make it greener with installed energy efficient insulations. He concluded saying that his company used advanced technology in the installation of low profile solar panels that are invisible from the streets.
