Hermosa Beach Church Installs Solar Panels

The Hermosa Beach church became the first green church in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Completely powered by solar energy, the church shows the way for its commitment towards ecofriendly green environment.

The church has hired the services of Corona-based Mohr Power to complete the contrived solar project. Mohr Power installed 253 solar panels over the top of an adjoining school building and kept the 11 inverters within the church premises to produce energy. The newly installed system is expected to produce an annual power output of 63,000 kW to meet 100% power requirements of the church. For meeting the expenses of the project the church received donations from a trust besides the $100,000 rebate received through Southern California Edison. Utilizing its current grid connectivity with SCB, the church has plans to sell any surfeit energy realized from the new plant to SCB and earn energy credits to utilize them during solar lean winter months.

Rev. Ray Mallett, who leads the 1000 family parish as pastor, said that he was encouraged by the installation of solar panels at the Vatican for some of its services located at Rome. He further informed about the installation of a computer in one of the school class rooms to monitor the power production and usage and use it as an educational tool to enable the students to understand the usage of power.
