AFS (Alternative Fuel Systems) together with Advantek Fuel Systems, its Indian partner, has decided to work on a particular development project with Bajaj Auto Limited. The project involves the CNG (compressed natural gas)-fuelled version of a commercial three-wheeled vehicle.
The Bajaj brand is popular across the globe in many parts such as South Asia, South East Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Bajaj Auto holds the fourth position in terms of the global manufacture of two-wheelers and three-wheelers. For testing purpose, a Bajaj prototype vehicle has been sent to AFS in Calgary. The vehicle has been designed for usage in major cities across India, where air pollution poses a serious problem.
Therefore, by making use of the latest AFS technology and running on CNG, these vehicles are anticipated to produce less harmful emissions significantly while offering better fuel efficiency and performance as well. The engine control equipment, thus, needs a significant increase in its sophistication in order to meet the requirements in terms of cost, emissions and performance.
