Helius Energy Secures Site in Southampton for Proposed Biomass Power Plant

Helius Energy has secured a site in Southampton for a proposed biomass power plant with a generation capacity of 100 MWe. The company has signed up a lease agreement towards securing a site that has its location in the Port of Southampton towards the proposed construction of the power plant that is fuelled by biomass.

By 2020, this plant is likely to contribute towards the South East Plan’s objective of cutting down 20% of carbon emissions. This will require an annual biomass feedstock from sustainable sources to the extent of approximately 700,000 tonnes. A noticeable portion of this biomass will be coming from the Port of Southampton.

The proposed site has the benefits of road links that are of high-quality along with the existing infrastructure of the port. This will facilitate Helius Energy’s strategy towards developing, operating and owning its own biomass project portfolio.
