Cargill to Construct Biodiesel Facility in Argentina

Cargill Inc. is all set to construct a biodiesel facility in Argentina. The company is looking to strengthen its biodiesel presence in Latin America.

Cargill Argentina (the Argentinean operating branch of Cargill) has invested $112 million for building a biodiesel plant with an annual production capacity of 240,000 metric tons. The plant is coming up in the soybean-growing area of Villa Governador Galvez in Argentina’s Santa Fe province.

Apart from this biodiesel plant, Cargill plans to construct a co-generation plant with 18 MW capacity on the same site as the biodiesel facility. The two projects are expected to become operational by September 2011.

Both of these projects highlight the confidence shown by Cargill in the growth prospects of the agribusiness industry of Argentina. Cargill employs 4,000 people in 50 locations in Argentina.
