Idaho Power Closes RFP Without Awarding Wind Energy Contract

IDACORP Inc, the principal subsidiary of Idaho Power, in May 2009, had issued a RFP (Request for Proposals) seeking to buy around 150 MW of wind energy by the year 2012. This RFP generated significant interest from developers of wind energy. Idaho Power is currently negotiating an agreement with the front runner.

Nevertheless, it was jointly decided that both the parties concerned were not in a position to finalize an agreement. Therefore, Idaho Power, last week, closed its RFP finally without awarding any wind energy contract.

Presently, Idaho Power’s resource portfolio consists of 600 MW capacity of the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) projects that include biomass, solar, wind and hydroelectricity. Towards developing wind energy, Idaho Power had launched an energy initiative termed as IRP (Integrated Resource Plan) that makes use of a collaborative public approach for connecting the government, environmental stakeholders, customers and public with Idaho Power planning and resource experts.
