Andrew S. Levin, acting Director of Department of Energy Labor & Economic Growth, has announced that the Genoa Township in Livingston County went green with the installation of five Windspire wind/solar hybrid wind turbines, as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant project (EECBG) valued at $94,919.
The turbines are manufactured indigenously in Manistee Michigan. The turbines are designed to generate more than the required power of the hall and the surplus will be fed to the grid to offset the electric bill of the hall.
The EECBG receives American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) funding to finance projects that can create local jobs, save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The state of Michigan has granted $17.6 million to 129 EECBG funded projects all over the state. The projects are aimed at helping minor communities with a number of energy efficient measures such as providing street light, helping community recycling programs and supplanting high energy consuming systems with energy efficient renewable energy systems. Normally, the EECBG awards range from $50,000 to $140,000 for renewable energy programs related to villages, small townships and cities and the award will go up to $650,000 for installations required by single counties and multi territorial beneficiaries.
