ACC Supports Tucson Electric Power’s Plans for Purchasing Renewable Energy Projects

The ACC (Arizona Corporation Commission) has expressed support for the plan of TEP (Tucson Electric Power) towards purchasing ten novel renewable energy projects that will produce about 150 MW of energy, sufficient for powering in excess of 30,000 Tucson homes.

The ACC has concluded that the agreements entered into by TEP towards purchasing energy from eight novel solar power systems in the Tucson-area, landfill gas generation power project as well as a wind farm in New Mexico, are all appropriate components in the efforts towards complying with the renewable energy goals of the state.

The endorsement from the commission allows the developers of the renewable energy projects for proceeding with the efforts for finalizing the finances while securing land rights as well as clearing other hurdles in the hope of completing the projects in time for beginning to provide power by 2011 or 2012.
