DuPont to Increase the Availability of Tedlar Polyvinyl Fluoride Film

DuPont, a company engaged in making sustainable solutions for green markets, has announced the manufacture of polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) polymer resin, an important raw material used in the making of its DuPont Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride film at its production facility in Fayetteville.

The Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride films used as a vital element in photovoltaic back sheets, offer the solar modules improved performance and sturdiness to withstand all types of weather conditions.

Solar Films usage

DuPont has planned a multi-phase investment of around $295 million for its Fayetteville production facility to increase the production capacity of Tedlar film to meet the growing demand of PV industry all over the world. The starting of this new production facility will enable the company to offer increased volumes of the film all through the year and its Tedlar film production facility planned at Circleville, Ohio, is expected to commence its production in September 2011. The company anticipates increasing its sales of PV products from the current $1 billion in 2011 to $2 billion by the year 2014 in anticipation of the PV market all over the world to grow rapidly in the coming years, thus requiring increased volumes of Tedlar film and other key materials used in solar module production to increase the usage period and efficiency of the solar cells and modules.

David B. Miller, President of DuPont’s Electronics and Communications division, said that starting the production of polymer resin for the manufacture of Tedlar film is a decisive step because it is an essential, used in solar modules as back sheet material to increase its service life up to 25 years and to augment power production.
