Lesce Hydro Power Plant in Croatia Commences Trial Run

Recently, the Lesce hydro power plant in Croatia, valued at €96.2 million, has commenced its trial run. This 42.29 MW hydro power station was inaugurated by Jadranka Kosor, the Prime Minister of Croatia. This is the first hydro power station to be built ever since the nation received independence from erstwhile Yugoslavia in 1991.

The power plant, situated on the river of Dobra, will generate 98 GWh of electrical energy annually, thereby assisting Croatia become energy independent by the year 2020 and also boost the domestic economic activity. The construction work for the Lesce plant had commenced back in November 2006. The work was conducted by a consortium consisting of local companies Ingra, Konstruktor and Koncar.

Leo Begovic, the CEO of power company Hrvatska Elektroprivreda, commented that Croatia could save electricity imports of €10 –11 million owing to this hydro power station.
