Green Energy Plant to Spring up in Maricopa City

The Maricopa City Council has proposed a green energy plant. The council has approved a resolution towards supporting the construction of a 30-MW electrical generation facility that will utilize green waste as fuel.

Termed as the Pinal Power Plant, this new facility is expected to provide power for approximately 35,000 homes while bringing jobs to the locality. This plant will be located adjacent to the Pinal Energy Ethanol Plant in Arizona.

The plant will draw fuel for its operations from a radius of 75 miles around Maricopa city. For generating electricity, the wood-burning technology of this new facility makes use of logs, tree trimmings, farm crop waste, stalks, wood pallets as well as bio-energy crops.

Currently, Pinal Power, LLC owns the site of this green energy plant. Initial capital investment of $92 million will be made by Pinal Power’s parent company Arbutus Bio-Energy, LLC, which is a developer, constructor and operator of renewable energy facilities, especially for biomass generation.
