A report from the World Bank states that the La Guajira location in Colombia has the potential towards generating 18 GW of wind power. Similar wind power regions in South America are Argentina and Chile. Northern portion of Colombia’s coastal regions have been classified as one of the best locations for wind energy.

Currently, wind energy is quite costly in Colombia; however decrease in the amount of investment required on wind energy projects might change the wind industry scenario to a large extent. The World Bank report has concluded that Colombia is currently adopting various policies towards promoting renewable energy technologies.
