Risoe DTU Mapping Chinese Wind Resources

Risoe DTU has been mapping the resources of wind during the last four years, particularly in the region of Dongbei in the north-eastern part of China.

The work carried out by the company is complete now and will pave the way towards the planning of wind farms for this geographical location along with power generation at guaranteed high levels.

The work carried out by Risoe DTU falls under the purview of the WED (Wind Energy Development Programme). The basic idea that goes behind this particular joint development programme is for sharing with China the experiences of Denmark’s wind power industry as well as the unique features falling under the purview of the unique Danish energy system. This scenario will help China in introducing wind energy onto the mainstream Chinese electricity system.

The study was jointly carried out by Risoe DTU and CMA (China’s Meteorological Administration) while being financed by the Danish and Chinese governments through the WED programme. The purpose of this project was towards mapping Dongbei’s wind resources based on trustworthy wind information derived from various measuring masts that were erected for this purpose, while enabling the Chinese authorities towards adopting better methods for the usage of wind data and calculations.
