Caltrans along with Earth Electric and Green Earth Engineering Corporation have together installed a novel PV power system at the maintenance facility of Caltrans situated in Monterey, California towards producing renewable energy.
This 9.6-kW solar system had been installed during early July 2010 while the final inspections were completed last week.
The solar system contract was awarded to one of the local collaborations between Earth Electric and Green Earth Engineering, both the companies being solar installers located in San Jose, California. The companies will be installing as well as sharing the wealth that accrues from this solar project. In spite of a state law which facilitates agencies for foregoing this bidding process on energy-related agreements, Caltrans still opted for taking the project under the bidding system. Many industry experts and consultants are in agreement about the process being complicated but are also of the opinion that this effort is well worth it since the dealing of public money is involved.
Green Earth Engineering is a provider of solar installations, solar system designs, engineering as well as general electrical services while Earth Electric is a bonded and licensed electrical contracting company that specializes in solutions in renewable energy. Caltrans provides inter-city railway services and manages in excess of 45,000 miles in terms of the freeway lanes and highways in California.
