Petra Solar Receives Contract from Sandia National Laboratories for Solar Technologies

Petra Solar has received the Solar Energy Grid Integration Systems (SEGIS) contract from Sandia National Laboratories.

This is towards Petra Solar’s innovative and advanced technologies for increasing the penetration of solar onto the power grid. Sandia National Laboratories went on to give this contract under the U.S. DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Program. The contract provides federal funding to Petra Solar to the extent of $5.8 million.

Under this contract, Petra Solar will be extending the development of its smart grid, micro-grid and electric grid stabilization technologies that will enable the utilities in managing the huge increase in the deployment of renewable energy that is expected as the demand for fossil fuel alternatives increases. The contract amounts to a very significant achievement in further establishing Petra Solar as a leader in smart grid in the utility-grade as well as a solar solutions provider.

The innovation of Petra Solar has helped in addressing issues that are connected with incorporating solar electrical energy to the energy source mix utilities utilize for generating, transmitting as well as distributing electricity for the public. Towards introducing more solar power to the grid, new communications and power management controls are required for better integration into the distribution networks.
