Alstom Receives Crucial €200-million order for Whitelee Wind Farm Capacity Extension

Alstom has closed a €200-million order from SPR (Scottish Power Renewables), an Iberdrola Renovables subsidiary, a Spanish energy group, towards building an extension of 217 MW capacity to the existing Whitelee wind farm located in Scotland.

Under this contract, Alstom will be installing 69 wind turbines of the ECO 100 variety each with a 3-MW output, along with six wind turbines of the ECO 74 variety each with a 1.67-MW output. The fully operational time period of these wind turbines have been scheduled for May 2012. This contract includes maintenance, operations, commissioning, installation, transportation as well as supply.

The extension of the Whitelee wind park is termed as one of the biggest onshore wind energy projects in Europe while representing a major milestone to the company. This order goes on to signify Alstom’s continued commitment towards the renewable energy market in the U.K.
