Solar Power Production Supplemented at Denver International Airport

Constellation Energy, a provider of energy products and services and Oak Leaf Energy Partners, a turnkey type of solar PV plants developer, have declared a joint venture in establishing a 4.4 MW solar power provision at Denver International Airport (DIA).

Constellation Energy will invest, own and manage the solar power installation at the airport and DIA will buy the electric power produced by the solar system for a period of 20 years. The project will be constructed by Intermountain Electric (IME) a Colorado-based company.

Constellation Energy is planning to commence the construction of the project during the fall of 2010 and is expected to complete it during the early part of 2011. For this third large scale solar power installation the company is planning to use photovoltaic panels manufactured by Yingli Green Energy. The third phase of the system is expected to use around 19,000 Yingli Solar photovoltaic panels and provide approximately 7000 MW solar power annually offsetting nearly 5,000 metric tons carbon dioxide emissions.

Michael Smith, Senior Vice President of Constellation Energy’s retail business Green Initiative expressed his happiness to be associated with IME, Oak Leaf Energy and Yingli Solar in the airport’s expansion project. He added that an increased number of organizations are realizing the benefits of using solar power in customer handling locations and the segment is growing. He concluded saying that the agreement depicts the ability of the company in utilizing novel financial plans for building of such projects mixing the funds generated from city, state, federal, corporate and private support.
