Solar Trust of America’s Blythe Solar Project Gets CEC Approval

Solar Millennium, LLC, a subsidiary of Solar Trust of America, has received an approval from the CEC (California Energy Commission) towards building and operating the Blythe Solar Power Project in the location of Riverside County. Upon completion, this would become the largest CSP (Concentrated Solar Power) facility in operation in the world.

Four plants, each with 250 MW capacities, will be delivering 1,000 MW of overall energy which is sufficient electricity for powering in excess of 300,000 homes yearly. Construction of the Blythe power plant is anticipated to commence by 2010 end. Having been approved by the CEC, the project must also secure certain regulatory approvals from the land management authorities, expected the fall of this year.

Converting solar radiations with high intensities into electricity would bring about many environmental benefits to California. This solar project would be reducing carbon emissions to the extent of two million tons annually. The project is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs while providing a substantial boost for the overall economy of the Riverside County.
