Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. has received the Green Power award towards its solar farm. Nicholas DeBenedictis, the Chairman and CEO of Aqua Pennsylvania received this award titled “Green Power: Turn it on” from Citizens for PennFuture (Pennsylvania’s Future) towards constructing a 1-MW photovoltaic solar farm in the company’s water treatment plant located in Chester County’s East Bradford Township. The award had been presented at the company’s 11th annual awards function.

This renewable energy project undertaken by the Ingram’s Mill of Aqua Pennsylvania makes use of high-efficiency solar panels towards converting sunlight into the useful power, thus reducing the power generation requirements of the region. This $6-million solar project has been funded partially with a grant of $1 million by way of a federal stimulus program that has been administered through the PEDA (Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority).

This solar farm would rank as one of the largest under the Pennsylvania region and has also received the Environmental Excellence Award from PEC (Pennsylvania Environmental Council). The solar farm offsets the need towards 3,000 oil barrels on a yearly basis while reducing CO2 emissions annually to the extent of 1.4 million pounds. Aqua Pennsylvania serves 1.4 million people approximately in 30 counties across Pennsylvania.
