Northern Power Systems to Launch Magnet Direct Drive Wind Turbine

Northern Power Systems Inc, a company engaged in the manufacture of wind turbines utilizing novel technologies, has received a funding from the United States Department of Energy, for developing and launching of its medium sized permanent magnet direct drive type of wind turbine, the Northern Power™ 450.

The Northern Power 450 will utilize the company’s community wind turbine know-how and will include the established Northern Power 100 generator, controls, software, and power converter. The combined use of its patented technologies is expected to make a cost reduction in the product to enable its wide use by light industries, small businesses, farms, schools, municipal offices, military sites and other applications.

Parthiv Amin, President of Community Wind at Northern Power Systems, said that the development and launching of the product will generate around 70 to 100 technology and production job positions within the company during the next few years and will also create additional jobs in its marketing and supply offices located in 15 states across USA. He said that the company is planning to utilize its existing supply chain that was introduced for its Northern Power 100 product.

John P. Danner, CEO of Northern Power Systems, expressed his happiness for being chosen for the project, He added that such a choice by the Department of Energy confirms the leading position of the company as a proficient developer and manufacturer of permanent magnet direct drive wind turbines.
