Dow, AWE and MAG Collaborate for Developing Wind Energy Technology

The Dow (Dow Chemical Company), MAG (MAG Industrial Automation Systems) and AWE (Astraeus Wind Energy Inc.) have entered into an agreement for collaboratively developing automated manufacturing solutions that are material-enabled with focus on enhancing and improving manufacture of finished blades as well as blade components of wind turbines.

Dow along with MAG will be initially focusing upon the materials as well as automating production technology so as to enable AWE in producing spar caps, along with a futuristic vision towards using the technology for assembling these components into finished blades of wind turbines.

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory would be assisting Dow with the evaluation of advanced materials. Dow and MAG together are expected to offer an automation technology solution that is material-enabled by the year 2012.
