PowerStream Inc, a municipally-owned electric power distribution company in Ontario, has received the award 'Energy Company of the Year' sponsored by the Ontario Energy Association (OEA), in recognition of its mercantile functioning in segments such as customer communications, environmental leadership and community involvement. The award was presented during the OEA’s annual meeting graced by Brad Duguid, Ontario Minister of Energy.
The company successfully brought in the communities closely utilizing its sympathetic contributing program that extended support to Vaughan Health Care Foundation, Markham Stouffville Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital Located in Barrie. The company has also made generous donations towards the construction of Sustainable Technologies Building for Georgian College, the United Way of Greater Simcoe County, the United Way of York Region, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Winter Warmth. The demonstrated environmental leadership of the company include activities such as construction of a new environment friendly operations center to attain the LEED gold certification, receiving the 'Environmental Excellence Award’ from the Electricity Distributors Association, winning of North Toronto/Vaughan sponsored ‘Smart Company of the Year’ award, succeeding in the PeakBusters Utility Challenge of the Ontario Clean Air Alliance, introduction of an employee vanpool program and achieving good results in the deliverance of energy preserving and demand administration programs towards its customer located in its service territory enabled the company to get nominated for the 'Ontario Environmental Leaders Program' conducted by the Ministry of Environment.
Elise Herzig, President and CEO of OEA, said that the award selection committee was awed by the ability of PowerStream in assembling a number of communities with varying needs. He added that the company expertly understood the needs of various groups in its service locality to serve them better.
