Ortho-McNeil Starts Using its 4.1 MW Solar Power Facility

Ortho-McNeil, a division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc, has put into use its installed solar facility over its campus.

This solar power producing installation is considered to be the biggest amongst the Johnson & Johnson group of companies all over the world.

The Titusville site, which has several Johnson & Johnson companies, commenced the construction of the plant during April this year. The 4.1 MW solar power producing plant will have 13,496 number of solar panels that can follow the movement of the sun from east to west all through the day. The power produced by the panels can fulfill nearly 70% of the annual electricity requirement of the site or in other words it can provide lighting to nearly 600 houses every year. The Titusville campus received LEED certification for its water and energy efficiency, reduction in CO2 emissions, enhanced ecological eminence and efficient management of resources within the building. The Green Power Partnership of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of USA has listed Johnson & Johnson Company as the sixth biggest buyer of renewable clean energy. Since the year 2002 the company has got around six Green Power Leadership Awards presented by the EPA and Department of Energy.

Joaquin Duato, Chairman of the Company’s Pharmaceuticals Group -‘The Americas’, said that the green energy initiatives at Titusville forms a part of the company’s allegiance to green energy initiatives. He added that the staff members of his company are looking forward to continuing the inheritance of Titusville where the company had started its first solar initiative in 2004.
