Invenergy Wind, a Chicago-based renewable energy company, has declared its plan to construct a 200 MW wind farm in a 30,000 acre plot in Gratiot County, Michigan.
The project, projected with an investment of $440 million will incorporate 125 numbers of giant sized surface mounted wind turbines. The power produced from the wind farm can be distributed to more than 54,000 houses to meet their electric power requirement.
The company is planning to start the construction of the project after 1st of November and utilize the services of around 15 permanent employees for maintenance of its work and 150 temporary workers for completing the construction activities. The company has signed a 20 year lease agreement with DTE Energy to supply electricity of $1.1 billion value. The power produced from the wind farm will constitute approximately 4% of the total power distributed by DTE Energy. The company is planning to complete its project and enter into commercial production by the end of next year.
Kevin E. Parzyck, Senior Project Manager of Invenergy Wind said that each of the wind turbines will stand 328 foot tall and generate 1.6 MW of renewable power. Jeffrey J. Baxter, a farmer who has leased his land for the wind farm, said that his 1,700 acre corn and dry beans farm in Bethany Township will have six giant wind turbines to generate power. He added that being a rural community they don’t have a number of industries for their survival and having wind turbines will help them.
