Suncor Energy and Teck Resources Team Up for Alberta Wind Project

Suncor Energy, Inc has teamed up with Teck Resources Ltd. towards an Alberta, Canada-wind energy project.

Suncor Energy, the largest oil company in Canada, will own 70% of this 88-MW Wintering Hills Wind project while also operating it. Diversified miner Teck Resources will take the ownership of the rest of this wind project.

Teck Resources anticipates that its total investment for this project would amount to $64 million, while Suncor’s financial details are yet to be confirmed. Construction work on this project began in July 2010 and is anticipated to be complete by the close of 2011. This project is likely to generate electricity, good enough for powering 35,000 homes.

In June 2010, this project received approval by the Alberta Utilities Commission. This Wintering Hills wind power project will be consisting of 55 numbers of 1.6-MW capacity wind turbines with location in private land at a distance of 120 km northeast of Calgary.
