NPPD to Start Construction on 80 MW Broken Bow Wind Farm

NPPD (Nebraska Public Power District) along with several private companies have signed an agreement spanning a period of 20 years towards making way for the construction of a wind farm adjacent to the Broken Bow location, with a power generation capacity of 80 MW.

The agreement on this Broken Bow farm takes NPPD half way towards its goal of securing 10% of its energy coming from new sources of renewable energy by 2020 end.

Edison Mission Group, Midwest Wind Energy as well as Broken Bow Wind have opined that this wind farm construction would begin in 2011 October while the facility would be starting operations by 2012 end. Broken Bow Wind will own as well as operate the farm while NPPD will be buying the electric output under a PPA (power purchase agreement).

NPPD will also be talking with firms such as Grand Island Utilities, Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, Lincoln Electric System and Omaha Public Power District towards purchasing part of the farm’s electricity generation.
