Iberdrola to Begin Construction of Globe’s Biggest Wind Park in Romania

Iberdrola Renovables will be starting to construct the largest wind park in the world in Romania towards the first phase power generation capacity of 600 MW. Upon completion, this facility would become the biggest onshore wind park in the globe, towards producing energy for the local as well as regional markets in Romania.

Construction of this wind park is anticipated to begin in 2011 and is expected for completion during the period 2016-2017. Iberdrola Renovables is also planning to construct an 80-MW wind farm this spring or autumn and scheduled for a mid-2011 delivery. Iberdrola Renovables, a Spanish utility, has already acquired rights from Romania for building this wind energy project, with an overall power generation capacity of 1,500 MW.

The average cost for buying and installing the wind turbines has been estimated at €1.7 million ($2.3 million) per megawatt. Thus, it is projected that this Iberdrola Renovables’ Dobrogea project which will come up in southeastern Romania by the Black Sea would be costing in excess of €2.5 billion. Iberdrola Renovables has already established the special trading company for Romania towards the future sales of wind energy produced from these farms.
