Wind Farm in Albany to be Extended Soon by Verve Energy

The extension of Albany wind farm is scheduled to take place within a couple of weeks from now. The initial stages of this Grasmere project located at Sandpatch will be costing $40 million while involving the construction of gravel hardstands and roads for these six wind turbines with a 2.3-MW power generation capacity each, for construction on the site.

Work at this wind farm is anticipated to get over by 2011-end along with the final synchronization towards the adjacent 12 wind turbines, thus ensuring full scale operations within several months. These combined wind farms are anticipated to produce 80% of the total energy needs of Albany, an overall power generation of 35.4 MW, an improvement upon 75% when this wind farm was inaugurated in 2001.

Verve Energy is sorting through the final preparations of this new wind farm. The company has already ordered for the six wind turbines from Enercon. The energy output from each turbine would amount to 2.3 MW, thus generating an overall power of 13.8 MW. Last week, the government had approved the wind farm expansion while the environmental approval had been obtained recently.
