Sustainable Construction of Commercial Buildings Grows in Popularity

The EcoCommercial Building Program for sustainable construction continues to expand. SilenceSolutions, a leading specialist for the acoustic interior design of office and industrial buildings, is new to the global network led by Bayer MaterialScience. The cooperation has been announced by representatives from both sides at Expo Real, the trade fair for commercial property in Munich.

Bayer MaterialScience is already operating the EcoCommercial Building Program together with other leading experts for the planning and building of sustainable and efficient office and industrial buildings. SilenceSolutions expands the range of solutions by utilizing its expertise in the cost-effective and efficient acoustic optimization of rooms. The so-called multi-impedance absorber developed by the Cologne based company, a noise reduction module that reduces the noise level in offices and factory halls, has made it to the top ten products at the German Innovation Prize 2010.

"The accurate design of interiors including optimal acoustics is an integral part of our integrated concept for sustainable construction and refurbishment ", said Dr. Thomas Braig, regional director of the EcoCommercial Building Program for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Optimizing the sound level is an important requirement for working in an effective and healthy way, especially in open-plan offices and other commercial buildings. We are pleased to increase the competence of our expert network for sustainable construction in this area."

"Enhanced noise reduction contributes to improving well-being and productivity at the work place, be it at the office or in assembly - while space can be saved at the same time", emphasizes Lutz Albers, general manager at SilenceSolutions. "Sustainable construction covers a broad range of issues. Therefore, the integrated concept of the EcoCommercial Building Program offers the best opportunities for combining ecological and economic aspects of construction. We are pleased to contribute our knowledge to the network in the future and to profit from numerous contacts in the industry."

SilenceSolutions’ products increase the scope of the EcoCommercial Building Program to soundproofing solutions. Bayer Sheet Europe, another network member, already has light-weight transparent and semi-transparent noise-absorbing partition systems, which are made from polycarbonate panels, in its portfolio. Furthermore, puren GmbH, a pioneer in the polyurethane rigid foam insulation technology, provides advanced sound engineering solutions with its purSonic product line, which come without visible loudspeakers.

"Today, we can achieve great improvements in acoustic insulation and sound absorption through the targeted use of modern technologies and materials", emphasizes Dr. Sven Meyer-Ahrens, Technical Director Flexible Foams at Bayer Material Science. Specially developed sheets made from polyurethane soft foam play a central role here. They prove especially successful in challenging acoustic situations, which occur due to complex modern building technologies.
