The City of Hollister and the Hollister School District performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the Hollister Water Reclamation Facility located at 2690 Old San Juan Road, Hollister, to denote the setting up of a solar energy project to power the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the schools in the school district of Hollister city.
The City of Hollister has designed a total of 10 solar-energy projects to power places such as wastewater treatment plant, two middle schools, six elementary schools and offices functioning at the Hollister School District. The wastewater treatment plant received financing from Perpetual Energy System, a company specializing in funding solar energy systems. The solar system to be installed at the Waste Water Treatment Plant includes a 1.16 MW PV system containing more than 5,000 solar panels. The Hollister elementary and middle schools will have more than 6,000 panels to produce 1.45 MW solar power. ClearSpot Energy, a solar project developing company is expected to devise, set up, manage and up keep the installed solar energy systems in association with Rosendin Electric and also buy the electricity produced from the facility.
The renewable energy solar projects to be completed with public and private participation will allow the City of Hollister to lessen its spending on energy costs and generate a number of construction jobs for the residents of San Benito County. ClearSpot and Rosendin have also agreed to make purchases of construction materials locally whenever possible to improve home job positions and revenue for the state.
Victor Gomez, Hollister’s Mayor, said that the solar program will provide more local jobs and lessen the spending on energy and will offer the city a prosperous future. He added that the clean energy projects will help the economy of the city, its power consumers and the school children.
