SunEdison, a globally known supplier of solar PV products and solar energy services and an auxiliary of MEMC Electronic Materials, has declared that it was contracted by CPS Energy, a municipal owned power company with around one million clients in San Antonio region to develop a solar power installation. The contract will be the first of such utility level solar order received by the company in the state of Texas.
The order will require Sun Edison to invest, construct, and administer the three solar power producing services generating a total power of 30 MW AC current within the power service limits of CPS energy. The project which is expected to get completed by 2011 will allow CPS Energy to reach its clean energy objective of achieving 20% of its total power production from green energy sources. Such renewable power production will help the company as well as the state of San Antonio to achieve the leading position in renewable energy power production.
Cris Eugster, Chief Sustainability Officer in CPS Energy expressed his happiness to offer a renewable energy solution that can provide long-term benefits to its clients. He expressed his anticipation and said that SunEdison while helping the company to achieve its target of 100 MW renewable solar energy power production by 2020 will also make San Antonio a solar power hub of the country.
Carlos Domenech, SunEdison’s President, said that his company is steadfast to make its presence felt in the growing solar market of Texas and expects to increase its share in the utility scale solar projects during the year 2011. He added that his company will provide municipal utility companies such as CPS Energy the advantage of cost-effective solar solutions by utilizing its funding capabilities and project implementation track record.
