Brazil Uses Sugar Cane to Generate Electricity

Brazil uses a number of different techniques to produce electricity.

These include sophisticated techniques such as wind farms and hydroelectric power stations and standard ones such as oil, gas and coal fired plants. Recently, the country has adopted a new technique to create electricity from sugarcane.

In September 2010, eight power stations were established in Brazil to create electricity by burning sugar cane. According to a business magazine, America Economía the power stations will have the capacity to produce approximately 543 MW of electricity.

According to a report in Offnews, Brazil is capable of producing more than 12,200 MW of electricity through sugarcane, which exceeds the 4500 MW power generation capacity of the Belo Monte hydroelectric station.

The Belo Monte hydroelectric station will be constructed at the Brazilian Amazonian forest and will be the third major power plant in the globe.
