Ecology and Environment Involved in First Solar Nevada Project

Ecology and Environment, a New York-headquartered company, has declared its association with the Silver State North Solar Project of First Solar. The mega scale solar project to be located on U.S. Public lands in Nevada has received approval from the Secretary of Department of the Interior (DOI) and Ecology and Environment has performed an important role in getting the environmental impact statement for the project.

First Solar has made an application for the 50 MWAC and 60 MWDC project to be located in Ivanpah Valley situated 40 miles south of Las Vegas. Ecology and Environment (E & E) jointly worked with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) at their Las Vegas Field Office. BLM studied the ecological effects of the project construction and its functioning in a number of important fields such as threat to the endangered species, distribution and use of water, recreational facilities and recognized suitable alleviation steps to lessen the impacts of the project. Ecology and Environment involved the individuals and others who may get affected by the project with well assembled informative meetings and by explaining the scope of the project.

Kevin Neumaier, President and CEO of Ecology and Environment, said that his company played an important part in getting DOI approval for the important clean energy project. He added that the project will enable Nevada to achieve its set goal of reaching 25% of its total power supplied from renewable energy sources by the year 2025. Further it will encourage other states, to emulate the collaborative working of the energy agencies, companies and stakeholders to introduce more such eco friendly projects.
