TCL+P Generates Peak Percentage of Wind Power in Michigan State

Traverse City Light & Power (TCL&P) currently has the highest percentage (7%) of wind power generation in the state of Michigan, which came through due to a joint venture with McBain’s Heritage Stoney Corners Wind Farm. Five of the wind turbines that are to supply energy to TCL&P are functional at present.

According to a state-mandated law all utilities in Michigan must compulsorily provide 10% of their power from renewable energy sources by the year 2015. All this would be possible by a downstate landfill gas contract, the new wind energy farm and a community solar project whose plans are in the pipeline. The solar project would allow people to participate in the program without setting up their own solar systems.

According to Jim Cooper, Manager of Communications and Energy Services, TCL&P this program would facilitate users who are unable to have roof type solar installations to purchase solar on a rental basis from TCL&P and receive credits for kilowatt hours.
