Quebec Favors Rapid Growth of Wind Energy

Wind energy is poised to grow rapidly after 2015 in Quebec, Canada. A recent survey conducted by Léger marketing firm, on behalf of Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA), indicates that nearly 75% of Quebec’s residents are in favor of wind energy generation. The residents consider wind energy as a renewable and green energy that will bring in more economic gains to the state and wanted the state of Quebec to further build its capability in wind energy development.

CanWEA ventured into the survey during the 12th and 14th of October by utilizing the services of Léger marketing.. Around 1,000 Quebec residents in the age group of 18 and above have participated in the survey and replied to the questions. The survey indicates that the attitude of citizens towards wind energy systems has improved by 23% when equated with the 2009 survey. Around 75% of the respondents wanted Quebec to improve its wind energy presence and nearly 82% of those answered felt that the state of Quebec should improve its expertise in wind technology in such a way as it developed the technology for its hydro electric power production. A bulk of those who had participated in the survey believe that wind farms will bring considerable financial benefits for the places where ever they are located. CanWEA has plans to unveil the results of the current survey in its 26th Annual Conference and Exhibition which is slated to be held during 1st to 3rd November at Montreal.

Robert Hornung, CanWEA’s President, said that the current survey clearly indicates the priority of Quebecers in the development of wind power after the year 2015 and their ambition to place Quebec as a leading wind developer in the location as that of hydropower production. He added that CanWEA will continue to dedicate itself for the growth of wind energy by joining hands with the stakeholders and local communities.
