The St.Isidore Solar Project situated close to the town of St. Isidore in the Municipality of the Nation, Ontario and developed by EDF EN Canada, is formally dedicated to the nation. Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs and Minister of Community and Social Services, along with Jon Kieran, EDF EN Canada’s Director for Solar dedicated the 12 MWdc solar power manufacturing facility to the nation. The company has invested around $250 million in the solar power developments in Ontario since 2009.
The construction of the factory which was started during the early part of 2010 is now completed with the installation of 153,000 solar panels at the location. On completion the power produced from the project can provide electric power to nearly 3,000 homes in Ontario. During the course of the building process the solar installation has offered employment opportunities to more than 200 people from the locality. The clean energy produced from the solar facility will reduce the dependence of the state on power produced utilizing coal. The St. Isidore Solar Project is one among the three solar projects currently constructed by the company. Earlier the company had completed the Arnprior Solar Project and helped in augmenting 24 MWdc to Ontario’s power grid. All the five projects including that of the currently constructed three projects have received assistance from the Government sponsored Ontario's Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP). In total more than 600 people are employed in all these projects and when completed more than 16,000 houses will get clean power generated from the facilities.
Calling the dedication ceremony as an important landmark, Kieran said that his company persists in improving the installed number of solar installations in Ontario and when the installation becomes completed in 2010 the company will generate and supply over 60 MWdc to the power grid.
