Gamesa Technology, one of the foremost wind turbine manufacturers, has introduced its new G97-2.0 MW Class IIIA turbine platform for North America during an exhibition and annual conference, the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA).
This is one of the major events in the wind energy sector. This model is particularly designed for sites with low wind locations. Gamesa anticipates that more than half of all future on- shore demands would be for this segment.
This turbine has a 16% additional swept area, when compared to the G90 and it also provides an increase in energy outlay of 14%. It incorporates the Gamesa Noise Reduction System (NRS) control system, to reduce noise and achieve maximum output; and also a latest aerodynamic blade tip design. The wind turbine also includes a preventative maintenance system; a Gamesa active yaw system to guarantee dynamic response to complex terrain areas; a next generation rotor of length 97 m for low wind locations; local grid connection conformity; variable speed and pitch technology for obtaining maximum energy output; and also the use of radical light-weight blades made from pre-impregnation methods using carbon fiber and fiberglass.
This new model with its modern nacelle design and enhanced nacelle cooling system provides reduced noise emission and superior power curve, leading to a better performance. This platform also exhibited a new portfolio of towers, consisting of the latest 90 m tower; models for towers taller than 115 meters and a streamlined 78 m tower design. The Gamesa G97-2.0 MW is in reality an improved version of the well-liked G8X-2.0 MW platform with an 8,300 MW global installed capacity.
The CanWEA was expected to have an attendance of around 2,500 wind energy professionals from all over the world, and ran from November 1st to the 3rd in Montreal. Around 250 companies showcased their products, including Gamesa. Gamesa had also participated in N.J’s Atlantic City North American Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition in the month of October, announcing a joint venture with NOC and Newport News to launch Gamesa’s G11X-5.0 MW offshore model.
