CanWEA Announces Plans for Wind Energy Industry Development in Quebec

The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) has announced its plans for the wind energy sector in Quebec. The association unveiled its plans at its 26th annual conference held at Montreal.

CanWEA has proposed to add an average of 800 MW of wind power each year, from 2016 to 2025. This makes a total of 8000 MW of wind power, increasing the contribution of wind energy to 20% to the overall electricity generation capacity of Quebec.

The objective of   CanWEA will bring in $25 billion of investment to the industry. The execution of this strategic plan will show considerable benefits economically, and will create about 91,000 jobs in construction.

The president of CanWEA, Robert Hornung commented that it is important for the Quebec government to explore further options for the development of the wind sector beyond 2015, so that investors will have a long-term certainty to focus on opportunities in the Quebec wind energy market.
