Vestas Wind Systems, a Denmark based wind company, declared that it has received an order for installing 86 MW wind turbines in Brazil. The wind turbines will be installed in two wind farm projects, to be located in the Rio Grande do Norte state and the north-eastern Bahia state. The order is for 21 units of V100-1.8 MW wind turbine and 16 units of V90-3.0 MW turbine.
The accord signed by Vestas will require the company to transport the wind turbines, deliver and install the wind turbines at the proposed locations. The contract also requires Vestas to provide its patented VestasOnline Business SCADA system ,for real time monitoring and controlling the activities of the wind power plant, utilizing a web- based interface. Vestas has also signed a five year service and availability accord with the company. The company is expected to commence delivery of its wind turbines in September 2011 and complete the project for commissioning by the end of the year 2011. The wind farm when completed will generate around 370 GWh of power per year to meet the electricity requirements of over 150,000 Brazilian homes every year. The power generated from the wind farm will offset over 27,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
Juan Araluce, Vestas Mediterranean’s President, expressed his happiness to sign the contract and said that the order denotes the faith of the client in its new V100-1.8 MW wind turbine. He added that the new wind turbine perfectly meets the requirements of the Brazilian wind energy market and the company is pleased to introduce it in Brazil.
