Canadian Solar, solar products manufacturing company and a supporter of the ZERO Race, declared that the electric vehicles involved in the ZERO Race has entered Vancouver. The vehicles which had earlier completed the first leg of their journey covering China, Kazakhstan and Russia will proceed from Vancouver and go down along the western coast line of the USA.
The current race commenced from the United Nations Palace in Geneva, Switzerland, on 16th August 2010 and has crossed over 16,000 kilometers till date. Three teams from three different continents are participating in the race, and drive solar- powered electric cars covering 500 kilometers every day. The vehicles are designed to use 100% renewable solar energy. The race expected to conclude in Geneva during January 2011 will stop at Cancun in Mexico on 5th December to participate in the World Climate Change Conference. Earlier Canadian Solar had sponsored the first ZERO Race in which Louis Palmer drove the first solar powered vehicle all over the world following Jules Verne's idea of going around the world in 80 days. The race restricted to zero emission vehicles was aimed at creating environmental awareness.
Dr. Shawn Qu, Canadian Solar’s CEO and Chairman, said that ZERO Race is expected to create awareness about the need of getting energy efficient and ecological friendly power supply and the need to introduce transport facilities that will have minimal ecological impact. He further said that his company as a clean energy product manufacturing company happily supports a project that evidences the use of emission free transport facility.
