enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, and Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), an electric power retailing company, have joined in the groundbreaking celebrations of the Lakefield Wind Project. The 205.5 MW wind project is anticipated to be completed and become fully functional in the fall of 2011. The power generated from the wind farm will help IPL to augment its clean energy portfolio.
The Lakefield Wind Project, developed and possessed by enXco, is located over 20,000 acres of arable land, located close to Lakefield Minnesota in Jackson County. The wind farm incorporates 137 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines with a capability to produce clean power to electrify around 68,000 households. enXco has signed a 20 year power purchase accord with IPL for selling the power generated from the wind farm. The power purchase accord has already obtained the approval of the Minnesota Public Utility Commission and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) during this year.
Tristan Grimbert, enXco’s President and CEO, expressed his happiness to augment the energy portfolio of IPL with a second wind project. He added that the project clearly reveals how a strong wind resource can be exploited to bring in renewable energy benefits to the clients. He added that his company is looking for a long association with IPL in delivering clean energy to the national power grid.
