LDK Solar Receives Excellence Award for Patent Technology

Manufacturer of photovoltaic and multicrystalline solar wafers, LDK Solar, has announced that its ‘Directional Solidification Furnace with Recharging Apparatus for Multicrystalline Silicon Ingot Growth’ patent has received the Excellence Award.

The 12th China Patent Award is a prestigious award in the patent field.

LDK Solar’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Xiaofeng Peng, stated that the company is happy to win the award for its patented technology. The company continues to focus on R&D projects that will enhance product quality, reduce production expenditures and improve process technology. Peng added that the investment in R&D projects would place the company as a true, integrated PV technology firm.

The company’s patent is an apparatus and technology that can significantly improve the manufacturing throughput of existing directional solidification furnaces. By using the patented-designed feeding system, more amount of silicon material can be included in the same crucible. The technique will help in minimizing the cost associated with ingot development via reduced use of energy and crucibles. The technique will also help in generating more number of ingots for the solar wafers.

In addition to PV and multicrystalline solar wafers, the company produces mono-crystalline cells, modules, wafers and ingots. It is also working on developmental activities in the PV market. The company’s headquarters and manufacturing plants are based in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province in China, while the office is located in Sunnyvale, California.
