Onsemble, a company that offers real-time data on renewable energy generation, declared that it has completed the setting up of hub-height wind data network all over the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) area.
The installation of the network in more number of locations in Texas has enabled the company to provide real-time hub-height data for nearly 95% of the wind farms located in the state and the company has become the first independent hub-height wind observation company in the region.
The new network established by Onsemble compares data from around 100 hub-height observation locations that lie near the wind farms. The sensors incorporated at the observation locations measure the speed of the wind, its temperature and direction and offer elaborately detailed data reports for every 10 minutes to assist the utility companies, wind farm operators, power traders and grid operators in their power operating decisions. In-house studies prove that the real-time data provided by the company reduces the inaccuracies in short-term as well as 24 hours advanced forecasting. The error free accuracy has become possible due to quality data seized at the hub height levels all through the rotor level.
Anish Parikh,Onsemble’s co-founder and vice-president, said that the quality inputs received by the network makes it possible to provide precise wind forecasts. He added that the wind industry was musing with various options to improve the accuracy of forecasts by having a system to provide accurate interpretations using the available wind data at hub-heights. He further said that the ERCOT network completed by the company will deliver such data for accurate forecasting.
