SunPower to Renovate New Headquarters to Get LEED Certification

SunPower announced that it is relocating its headquarters within San Jose, California. The company is moving its headquarters to a campus with three buildings, in the next spring season to spur long-term growth.

The new building, which is located on Rio Robles, will be renovated to achieve LEED gold certification. The company’s corporate staff, including engineering, finance, product development, and communications departments, will be shifted to the new headquarters.

An economic incentive package of $2.5 million has been arranged by the city of San Jose for SunPower, for workforce assistance, sales and utility tax reimbursement, and permitting. However, the incentive has to be approved by the City Council. Moreover, the company is enquiring for a low-interest loan of $30 million for capital equipment and building enhancements. The company has planned to install a rooftop solar system and a solar-powered carport, as well as other clean technology features.
