First Wind Commences Milford II Wind Project Expansion Construction

First Wind, U.S.-based wind energy company, has recently held a ground- breaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the Utah-based Milford Wind project’s 102 MW phase II expansion.

The Phase II of the Milford Wind Project on completion will produce up to 102 MW of renewable energy, adequate to provide electricity to around 22,000 homes. The second phase expansion project situated in Millard and Beaver County, Utah will have 68 1.5 MW wind turbines manufactured by GE. RMT which completed the construction of the Phase I of Milford project will continue to be engaged in the construction activities of the phase II. The wind farm construction is anticipated to bring in extra income and job opportunities to the nearby areas.

During the installation of 204 MW first phase of the project which was commissioned in November last year, the company has spent over $30 million on local purchases which has brought in more business and developmental opportunities to Utah and the company also contributed over $50 million to the state by the way of taxes and wages.  The first phase has brought over 300 construction jobs to the state.

The company has signed a long period power purchase agreement (PPA) to provide the produced power to Los Angeles and Glendale. The completion of the Milford II project will increase the quantum of renewable energy provided to Los Angeles, Pasadena and Burbank from the first phase. The power produced from the project will be linked to Intermountain Power Plant in Delta by utilizing a 88 mile long generator lead constructed from the project to get connected the national power grid.
