Tata Power to Invest $1 Billion in the Wind Energy Sector

Tata Power reveals its $1 billion investment plans in Wind Energy, according to the Executive Director (Strategy and Business Development) Banmali Agrawala.

This utility company has set a target of achieving a minimum of 25%, i.e. 8000 MW of power generation, through clean renewable sources that include solar, wind geothermal, hydro and gas, by the year 2017.

Being India’s major utility provider, Tata Power is famous for its trustworthiness and reliable power supply. It has an installed power generating capacity of 3000 MW, both thermal and hydro in nature. It has installations in Mumbai, Delhi, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and in Jojobera. With an experience of 90 years behind them, and also outstanding engineering skills, Tata Power has been involved in numerous overseas projects in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, Thailand and Myanmar. Its 30 year old Strategic Electronics Division (SED) has been developing systems such as the Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher, Pinaka, for the Indian Defense sector. The company’s Extensive programs on pisciculture, afforestation, health services, education both primary and secondary have been of great benefit for the people, especially in the tribal regions.
