Consumer Energy has signed two contracts for construction and supply services related to the Lake Winds Energy Park in Mason County. The utility has scheduled its first wind park to start operation in 2012.
Consumer Energy is awaiting approval of the contracts from the Michigan Public Service Commission. In addition, the wind park needs a permit from Mason County for special land use.
The company has entered into a contract with White Construction, a North America-based wind park builder, for plant engineering, construction and procurement services. As per the deal, the companies will source most of the material purchases and construction jobs within Michigan.
In addition, Consumer Energy has contracted GE-Prolec Transformers for the supply of electric transformers to be used in a new substation for the Lake Winds Energy Park. The company has planned to reveal a report about the park’s financial benefits by early 2011. The report will furnish details about the economic impact of the wind park, such as expected tax payments.
