Ofgem Announces Tenders for Wind Farms Transmission Links in Britain

Ofgem, an electricity regulator, has invited companies to bid for tenders offering high-voltage links to offshore wind farms in North Wales. The regulator opened tenders to connect six new wind projects to the electricity grid. The total value of the tender is about GBP 1.9 billion.

One of the wind farms tendered is the Gwynt-Y-Mor development. With a total capacity of 576 MW, it will be the largest wind project in Europe, after completion. The company that wins the bid will own and operate the links for 20 years.

The Chief Executive of Ofgem, Alistair Buchanan, said that Britain has to get an investment of GBP 200 billion in the coming 10 years in the energy sector, in which offshore transmission links will have GBP 20 billion.

Other wind farms, for which the tender was announced, are for London Array, Lincs, Race Bank, West of Duddon Sands, and Humber Gateway.
