DTE Energy, Detroit-based diversified energy company, has recently issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to augment its renewable energy portfolio. The RFP, which is set to end by 21st January 2011, invites applications from biomass, wind, landfill, hydro and solar renewable energy producing companies.
The company has sought proposals for a total of 245 MW power production capabilities by the end of 2014 and is looking forward to commission 120 MW worth power projects before the end of 2012.
The company has undertaken a range of efforts to increase its renewable energy portfolio and RFP forms a part of its efforts. In order to meet the renewable energy goals set by the state the company needs to add approximately 1,200 MW of clean energy. The company has plans to offer 10% of its total power supply from clean renewable energy sources by 2015. To meet the target the company has devised plans to start its own power production facilities to cover 50% of its electricity requirements and enter into agreement with private producers for the other 50%.
The company receives most of its renewable energy from wind energy sources. Recently the company has acquired the right to use over 75,000 acres of land in the heart of Michigan to develop utility-level solar farms. The two solar pilot programs of the company are anticipated to add 20 MW to its renewable energy sourced power supply. Earlier in September the company had signed a 20 year accord with Invenergy Wind with a $1.1 billion commitment for a wind energy farm to be erected over 30,000 acres of land close to Breckenridge in Gratiot County, Mich.
